The driving force behind What Are Emotions? is Tawanna Cullen, who wanted to create an episode that helps children understand themselves better. In an era where emotional intelligence is crucial for children’s development, What Are Emotions? bridges entertainment and education, making social-emotional learning (SEL) accessible to kids in a dynamic, fun, and engaging format.
"I wanted to create something that helps kids understand themselves better," says director Tawanna Cullen. "Many don’t fully grasp the biological side of emotions or the difference between emotions and feelings. This episode breaks it down in a way that’s easy to understand."
Actors Helaina and Fia also emphasize how the show makes learning enjoyable. "I loved discovering new things while acting. Learning how dopamine affects emotions was fascinating," says Helaina.
"Emotions are special, and they matter. No one should feel like their emotions aren’t important," adds Fia.
